WE PROFFER SOLUTIONS TO THE FOLLOWING:
Children and their families may be exposed to numerous upsetting experiences, like violence. death, divorce, abuse, separation, custody conflicts, drugs, Inadequate parental care and marital problems. As a result of this, families (especially children) often suffer from problems that often impede their normal development and future functioning.
When children are exposed to one or more of these traumatic situations before they are
sufficiently mature to cope with, their innocence can be destroyed, their trust shattered, and their minds filled with troubled and destructive images. Both adults and children need a therapeutic environment for them to work through their anger, hurt and pain in order to resolve these problems, and then restore their positive developmental progress.
TARGET AUDIENCE
: Our Target Audience represents the full spectrum of communities, and are generally the middle
class to the poor. ‘HOPE FOR AFRICA EMPOWERMENT CENTRE's services are held In high regard by the community and other Non-Governmental Organizations, help Iine centres, schools
and private individuals, all of whom refer people in need to us.
SERVICES PROVIDED BY HOPE FOR AFRICA EMPOWERMENT CENTRE :
● Counseling Services
for adults and adolescents; This includes In-depth, long or short-term psychotherapy for
groups, family counseling and marriage preparation.
● Trauma Debriefing and Counseling
For adults, adolescents and children in response to the high levels of family and societal violence,
we offer trauma debriefing and short-term therapy for adults, families and groups of people who have had a traumatic experience(s), e.g. criminal or political violence, hi-jacking, drowning, etc.; assessments and crisis intervention for children traumatized by violence; and group or individual
therapy for traumatized children.
In addition, we provide support services and training for teachers and other professionals working
with traumatized children as most adults feel ill-equipped to assist these children.
● Employee Counseling Services For the business sector:
Our programme is aimed at reaching more children and families by providing individual and group counseling services, workshops and campaigns for company staff at their place of work. In this setting, we also assist resolving Issues related to absenteeism, alcohol/drug abuse. HIV & AIDS, mental health issues, suicidal behavior and any other work-related, personal and family-related problems, which may affect productivity. Our workshops cover mediation between employer and employees, cross-cultural Issues, communication skills, stress and time management or any other subject pertaining to the workplace Trauma counseling, also offered on the premises.
● Community Support Services:
In response to request by the communitIes. teachers and schools in Alexandra, Orange Grove, Hillbrow, Berea and the greater Johannesburg area, we are extending our services to these communities. In additIon to all mentioned above services, we offer workshops training, support to learners with emotional and educational problems (we provide both physical and counseling for Learners and families).
● Public Awareness and Networking:
We network with external stakeholders and similar organizations to share knowledge and resources
6. PERSONNEL
: The Centre Is managed by Apostle Prince Anthony Nwachikereuba, who reports to an executive Committee. The team works with social workers, counselors and volunteers from the community.
SUSTAINABILITY: Traditionally, we are increasingly and appropriately providing a multidimensional community service to the poor, more marginalized and disadvantaged sectors of our society, this measure of self-sufficiency is decreasing. And income from donations and grants does not cover the cost of the broader services, and It Is (therefore) becoming difficult to undertake extensive fundraising activities In order to address the needs of our centre.
